I took TubeDude's advice and went with my 9 year old son to the mouth of the Spanish Fork River Saturday morning.
Beautiful morning -- except for the tons of garbage littering the area -- it was a dump!
Somebody had also had left a hot firepit right in the middle of the parking area. I filled up my bucket and put it out. The water boiled it was still so hot.
I taught my son an example of what fisherman should NOT do. Then we filled up our bucket with trash and emptied it at home.
I just want to drop kick people like this.

I am with you on that. Completely. That is actually one of the reasons I don't go into specifics about where I fish at times...it's not to be secretive...i hate telling people then I go back to a spot that has never been an issue before and next thing I know it is trashed!!!! I often end up just river and stream fishing in areas that are extremely hard to get to....hard hard work but worth it when there is beer cans and all kinds of garbage everywhere.

Good on ya for taking some trash with you.
I'm going to fish the knolls on Thursday and plan on loading up as much as I can when I'm done fishing.

Thanks carp. Thats why I seldom go down there. I have a good spot up stream. I let the trees grow in around it so nobody can see the entrance. Then I clear all the trees out down near the water for some casting room. Been catching a half dozen or so catfish every time I go down. They are up in the river pretty good now that the farmers are pulling water out.Still more like April fishing then July, with the high water and mud.

Me and a bud went MT Biking on a trail up Logan Canyon in the Temple Fork area. At the top of the trail someone had a firepit they had built and the fire was still hot. We passed two groups coming up to the top so it must've been one of them I'm assuming. Anyways, We drained out our water bottles (wasn't a big deal since the ride back was gonna be downhill) and made a bunch of trips back and forth from the river to put it out.
Where the heck is Smokey the Bear when ya need him?
(just to keep it fishing related ran into one guy fly fishing the river and he said he hooked into a small one and that was it)

When my kids were you I used to give them a dollar to fill one of those grocery bags with garbage.
BTW If you try this make sure to tell your kids that the garbage has to come from the ground. I caught one of mine pulling trash out of a trash can.
The real kick is I would stop somewhere on the way home and let them buy/choose a treat. Yeah, the same one I was going to have to buy for them if they didn't earn some money. I don't think they ever caught onto that.
Good on you all for cleaning up. I have filled many bags myself. And anyone cleaning up where I am fishing is welcome to walk up and pick a half dozen flies from my collection as my appreciation.

This would have been a "call the cops" moment for me.
Several illegal things happening there.
