Outboard Service

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone would offer some information about servicing outboards. I have a 15hp 4-stroke Evinrude that needs the oil/filter and any other regular maintenance required. Do you fellas have any recommendations of who to take it to or is it something I can do myself. Any and all responses greatly appreciated.[]

I service my own little 6 hp 2-stroke Johnson and haven't had any real trouble. Do you have a Book on that motor? You Should have a Book on that motor, it is like a Bible. Trust me. I have to agree with AFD. Pick up a service manual, like one published by Clymer, and you should be able to handle all the tune-up stuff all by yourself.

Lee's is a great boat shop should you need any repairs that you cannot handle yourself. Good luck with the motor.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'd better get one of those "bibles".[] I do most of the maintenence on my four-wheeler and vehicles just wasn't sure if I needed one of those hand oil pumps to suck the oil out or not.
