#1
hey you guys im new to the site, also i live in pocatello, i am going to go try catfishing down in soda springs, my buddy caught some down there bout 7 i think? anyways im new to it never tried it before so i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips as to what type of knot, hook, weight size, and bait to use? i bought some chicken hearts and im leaving them out to rot and stink, my buddy said thats what he used and they worked great, i also heard that the catfish bait that you can buy from the stores works good also well thanks for any input, oh also i was wondering if you know where a good spot on the alexander reservoir would be a good spot to go? thanks again!

Welcome to the site! I haven't cat fished there, so the best I can tell you is to use the search function on here and look at the posts for Alexander. I know that it has been discussed some in the past. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Whats up dude,I never tried the rotting bait trick ,but I do know its a good idea to rig it with a leader, hook it and have it ready so you just have to tie it on and avoid touching the bait.I like to use 20lb line, in powerpro ,slide a weight down line, then use a splitshot to keep weight from sliding to the bait.I leave 2 feet or so.I like to use owner baitfish hooks size 4,or try 2 or 3 for smaller cats, under 4lbs.Just use more lead if you are using big baitfish.Have lots of lines out, have one with a big baitfish, some sm,and some cut up,and your liver bait.[Image: bobwink.gif] I call it the Paul knot, its almost like the berkley knot, but you have another step.Follow the knot illustrated below, but go through the eye twice just like the berkley knot.Follow the last step by going through the loop at the end.If anyone finds this knots name, I will take back my name, and call it by its own.Let me know how it goes with that stinkbait....constantly check your lines ..Paulpro..good luck finding a fishing hole.,were theres a hole, theres a hole .

Try down below the hospital around the bridge. Also try chick livers [sly]. use as little weight as you can but still allow it to stay on the bottom and not drift away.... The cats will play with it and if they feel weight the smart ones will leave it alone... So less weight the better.... I like a slip sinker or egg sinker this will allow the bait to be played with not much weight to be felt. Worms work good as well but the carp also love them. Also night fishing is better I think so bring lots of bug spray.

I love cat fishing so if you ever need want a buddy hit me up. I also live in Pocatello.

Hey anytime,as you see ,its 5:00am,keep them lines tight.Try braided line on at least one rod ,makes for easy hook ups,and you feel every nibble.
