I'm asking hat in hand for support. My efforts to secure donations from local grocery stores haven't met with a whole lot of success. Several of you fellow BFTers have already contributed or committed to. PLEASE, help us feed these guys a fitting meal after we are through fishing. I know full well that things aren't well with the economy but I'll bet that if everyone who posts on or just watches the Utah board pitched in one dollar, we could put out a meal deserving of these folks. Every one of them has given more for us than we'll ever know. I know I'm putting a strain on my retirement budget trying to give something back and I don't begrudge one damn cent of it. Please, if you can throw something into the hat, send me a PM and I'll arrange to get it from you.
Thank you,
Tom Robison aka GEEZER

On Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 a group of BFT members and others are taking their boats to Soldier Creek marina on Strawberry Reservoir to take a group of disabled veterans out for a day of fishing followed by a hamburger & hotdog feed at the Soldier Creek pavilion. At last count, we were told by the VA representative we're working through, to expect about 60 Vets. It's really a worthwhile effort to give a little something to those who have given so much for our country.

This is a great outing. I did this two years ago and you will not regret it if you volunteer. I have a work conflict or would be all over this. It's a little disheartening to see the lack of response for our own disabled vets.

A little over a year ago I created a little company with some unique designs for t-shirts, hats, and decals with the sole focus of promoting our fishing heritage. I have committed 20% of all proceeds to support the 3 major charitable events I am involved with, the DAV fishing day, the Cast for Kids fishing days, and the Catch-A-Cure for Cancer, support for Camp Hobe. This year I had planned to make a donation of $200 to the DAV in the form of items to be given away to the vets at the bbq. In response to Tom's call above I will donate this in cash and have committed to Tom that if he still doesn't have enough as we get closer I will donate more. I will also still be providing the vets with some give aways.
I am making this post not for notoriety or praise but merely to inform you all of an opportunity to give back. I am a vet of the first gulf war and fortunately I did not have to pay a big price, but I have the ultimate respect for any and all that have or will in the future.
If you would like to suuport these fantastic causes please volunteer your time or money as it will be very much appreciated.
I'll have hats and t-shirts available after the event for any of you that may want to support our work.

I will get with Adam from Roughin It and see what he can do if anything. I have also contacted the American Legion to see if they could help us out.

This will be my second of many of these events to come.
Last time I participated as a boat captain. This year, I will be cooking for everyone. I have a small catering business and will be donating my equipment and time. I will also be donating all the plates, napkins, utensils.
As Geezer said, every little bit helps. A 5.00 or 10.00 donation buys a pound or 2 of burger, or a few packages of hot dogs, a pack or 2 of buns.
This Thursday, we will be cooking at Flirts Bar in Lehi. I will pledge 25% of my proceeds from the nights feast to the DAV. Will be cooking and serving Smoked Chicken, BBQ beans and pasta salad.
If you cant make the DAV event, or cant get with Geezer to make a cash donation, come down and eat. If you are not hungry and want to contribute, I will have some donation cans and fliers that Bassrods had made up, set out.
PM me for more details if you need them.

DAV team, thanks so much for the response so far. While it looks like the BBQ portion of the operation is coming together well we are still about 1/2 short on the number of boats that we need. Currently we've only got 18 boats signed with accomodation for about 28 vets. Please canvas your friends and lets get out there and hit up family as well. If they aren't members of the board give them my phone number and have them call me.
Sorry for hijacking, just trying to get this message in as many places as possible...

I just got off the phone with Adam Eakle from Roughin It Outdoors. He told me that he will have a plug for the event in this Saturday's show. He will direct people to this web site for further information on donations.

Great job, thanks Kyle.
Hey Cliff, could you send Kyle a copy of the flyer I heard about? He'd like to use it to help get more media exposure.

I got in touch with a couple more friends last night about help with their boats. Hopefully that will be two more boats and possibly a pontoon boat. I gave them your number so I'm hoping they will be getting in touch with you.
