Australia has considered using it as a biological control for carp.

And I'm sure they aren't the only ones looking into it.

The research seems to show that it does affect only carp and koi. But how extensive has that research been?

Also, if it were determined that there was no risk for the disease being transferred to the other species of the lake I doubt that millions upon millions of pounds of rotting carp flesh would be good for the lake. A change that drastic in the composition of the lake could have numerous unknown affects.
