A Bonneville or Yellowstone Cutt?
#1
I need help identifying this Cutthroat Trout (1st pic). It was caught at Smith and Morehouse back on June 24th, 2011. The second pic is of a bear lake cutt. and I must say they don't look the same at all.

Is this a Bonneville or Yellowstone Cutt?

Can be hard to tell those 2 apart. From the distribution and amount of spots I'd go with Bonneville or possible a mongrel ( hybrid of Bonneville with Yellowstone) and not a pure subspecies. We have quite a few waters with mongrel cutts. Like this one I caught earlier this spring:

Could always send him for dna testing[laugh]. I guess I shouldn't laugh the cutts in the river where I caught mine already had DWR go through the expense of DNA testing several years ago.

Should probable clarify that if it's not a Bonnie likely a mixed ( mongrel or mutt ) cutt. A hybrid would be the offspring of 2 pure strains. More likely if mixed that has been going on for years and neither parent were pure strain of either bonneville or yellowstone.
