NFO Outlaw Assault
#1
Who's got one? Reviews? Need a test drive!

I LOVE my Renegade, but I keep having these recurring flashes of myself in an Assault. I see someone in a Watermaster, and then see myself in an Assault. I slightly deflate my Renegade to slide it into the back of my truck, and see myself in a narrower Assault. I pick up my 28 lb. Renegade to move it, and see myself in a 23 lb. Assault.

It just looks to be a little bit "better" in many ways, especially the fit. The only thing I might miss is the open front entry of the Renegade, but I also see a benefit or two from a "closed" bow.

It's probably only a matter of time, and the Renegade will be for sale to help pay for an Assault. I can't quite afford to keep both. I'd love to row someone's
Assault down the Green for a day though. I'll take care of the shuttle and maybe dinner at the Lodge! You can try my Renegade if you haven't tried one already.

You know I don't have one, but I've thought about the pro's and con's.
I like the open end of the Renegade- it's easier to fish out of with an open end- for me anyway. You mentioned another reason. Easy access. I can't think of anything else really.
So all in all, I could live with either one. Neither "con" is a dealbreaker for an Assault.
NFO now has the Assault XX. Longer, wider and I think Dave mentioned a capacity of 1500 lbs. but I could be wrong.

I see the Assault being killer for rivers. I love the idea of the rockers instead of the larger front on the WM. I get the desire for sure.
But like mentioned, I use mine for stillwater and I like the open front. The 5 lbs could be a big plus....[Wink]

I'm 99 percent rivers and dry flies, so I don't need the open end for fishing. I do get in and out a lot to wade fish along the rivers, so that's really nice about the Renegade. Sometimes though, I'd like to anchor with my bow into the current to make upstream casts to fish, and I could do that with the Assault. Mainly, I like the idea of a narrower craft for easier loading/unloading from pick-up bed. Sometimes, I do two or three floats a day on short river sections, so lots of moving back and forth.

Just the idea of being lighter, more compact, and otherwise nearly identical in features to the Renegade gets my wallet twitching!
