coastal bear and fishing
#1
[crazy]Has anyone been coastal black bear hunting on the Prince of Wales Island in Alaska?

If you have, how early in the year was it and was you able to get into any good bottom fishing(butts, rockfish, etc.)while you were there?

Going next year and would like someone that has experienced this first hand. Will be on the inside passage near Pt. Baker, northwest tip of island and doing the self-guide adventure.[Wink][Wink][Wink]

I went to POW this year but on the south east side of the island. We have done DIY hunt/fish both times. The salmon are pretty scarce in the spring but the rock and yellow eye fishing is fabulous. We have also caught a few halibut. With the drastic tide changes bear hunting is slow on high tide so that's when we would dropp a line. As far as the bear hunting goes I'm not sure you can top it. We found out from the first trip that a boat is a neccesity.I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Pm me if you would like.

Thanks for replying, were you on the coast side of the island or the inside passage area? I'm planning on doing the same as you did as far hunting low tides and fishing the high ones and really want to bring home some good eating fish or the wife will be unhappy with me. Haven't heard much from anyone that sounded very encouraging as far as the fishing goes on the inside passage area.
So now that I hear how you done it excites me, just curious about the location because I will be to far in to make it out to the coastal areas. Was you using bait or just plastic jigs? Thanks again
