the farmington madness

We were on the water by 4am and headed out to our scouted out spot and found no one there...sweet. We even kicked ducks off it which boded well for the four of us. Set out the dekes in a 15mph wind and waited for the magical hour and as soon as it was light enough, got everything ready for the coming slaughter.

7:30 came and the fireworks went off and ducks started buzzing our dekes from all directions. I had seven down by 8:15 and they kept coming. The wind died for a while but then picked up again around 930. We were still getting occasional shots by 11 when we decided to pick things up. I can't remember a year where I had so many opportunities to take shots (all under 40 yards of course) and we took home a good number of ugly ducks. My wife shot an amazing looking drake mallard and we took six or so other ugly big ducks and then a bunch of greenwings and cinnamons.

Talked to the guy who checked our birds and he said it had been a slow day for most people which surprised me. Anyway, i'm stoked it's finally here and that this weekend looks cold and windy....perfect. Bring it on!

Very Nice you two! Bring on the cold is right I got ate alive in the afternoon, We hunted a spot that is usually pretty good but the birds where to shot up and very decoy shy until shooting time was over then they decided they liked them.
Got one eclipsed buck pintail before it was over.
By the way! You now can get your boat into that pond. I cleared the bottle neck yesterday on the way out, took me about hour and a half but all of it is gone. Shot 6 greenheads and a hen pintail in there yesterday afternoon was the best around 12-2 PM with the ducks coming in off the lake. No pictures sorry.
