CJ 10-12, Swan Falls 10-13

Went out to Strike to jig for perch off the dam last night. The bite was pretty steady. I caught around 30 and kept 10 over 10 inches. I was using perch meat on a double hook rig. Most of the perch were within a few inches of the bottom. Had another line out with a worm on it. After a very long time in the water, a squawfish bit on it. Overheard some other anglers talking about getting a trout on a crankbait, so hopefully trout will start picking up there soon.

Took the squawfish down to Swan Falls and put a butt whoopin on the channel cats. I was only there for about three hours, and I caught seven and I only had one pole out the entire time. The bait had only been in the water about 10 minutes before I got my first fish. Most were over five pounds. I got there around 5:00, and the bite slacked off after 8 so I left. They're still biting OK during the day, but I think the nights are just getting too cold.

Better get out and do some catfishing before they shut down for the winter. I was planning on keeping a couple, but unfortunately somehow my stringer came untied and they swam off. Oh well.

Are you fishing shallows or channels for the cats? I caught a 5lbs in the shallows by the dam on my flyrod with a hopper! Most exciting fish so far! Just cause the size and weight mostly. That and I had no idea what it was for 10 minutes cause it was hugging the bottom till the end and I didn't want lose it being too aggressive.

I was fishing in the shallows. My theory is they are searching the shallows on a feeding binge to pack on weight for the winter.

That is a good plan. They should also be behind rocks in the faster water. They work like trout staying behind a rock waiting for a chunk to float by. They were hitting our bait as we were floating over 5 MPH. When you target those areas you fish BIG fish. Ron

Fished Strike today. My partner's trolling motor wouldn't work so it was tough trying to keep the boat where we needed it. We both managed to catch a bass. Mine was about 14" with a huge belly and my partners was about 12" also with a huge belly.

I questioned him about his batteries and he said he only plugs them in the nite before a trip. His boat has been sitting almost a year and the batteries are 5 years old. Any clues as to what was wrong?? Yep, batteries were deader than the perverbial door knob. I put them on my meter when we got home and they had a reading of .950. Less than a volt of juice in them. Needless to say he is buying new batteries. I told him they need to be plugged in all the time as the chargers in the boats keep a trickle or maintenance charge in them after they are fully charged.
