Flygoddess and TubeDude hit Deer Creek
#1
[cool][#0000ff]It's been a few months since Flygoddess and I hit Deer Creek for some slimer action on flies. Decided to go trick or treating there today...hoping the power squadron was done and that the weather would hold. Good planning both ways.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I got there first and launched at the island ramp...just before 7:30. She showed up soon after and launched further north off the shore of the still high water. Air temp was 24 and water temp 53 at launch. cooooool.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It was still dark as I motored out toward the end of the island, where I planned to prospect for perch and walleyes. I tossed out a jig and fly combo to drag behind me and quickly got molested by a few finless Freddies. They were thick and jumping all over the place as it began to get light.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We came in our usual costumes...Flygoddess went trick or treating with her fairy wand...and got lots of trout in her (net) bag. I went as the Prince of PVC or the grumpy old man. Same thing. I got a few trout too but mostly by accident on jigs being soaked for other stuff.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Started out slow but finally found a hump with a lot of marks on it. I removed a bunch of them. Nice cookie cutter "fat-ten" perch. Kept a few and released a few. Smallest I caught was still about 9 inches. Not bad. No real toads though.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Caught several decent trout from the bottom up, on jigs being fished for perch. Some hit on the bottom. Some hit on the way down or back up. Kept one about 17" for the grill.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Several trollers out but it was quiet on the lake. A couple of other tooners too. Saw a few other fish being caught and one of the boats that came in about the same time I did at noon claimed they had gone through a lot of little ones to limit on big fat ones.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Beautiful day...even if it was cold. Gonna get colder before it gets warmer.[/#0000ff]

The two of you are awesome. You guys should start a local fishing show together. It would be a big hit don't ya see? But then again , why mess up a good thing by turning it into a job.[Smile]

T-Dude,

Your photos are really nice. Bright, excellent color, clear and sharp. I'm sure you mentioned somewhere what kind of camera you use - I can't remember; what's your weapon of choice?

I won't be able to afford a new camera for awhile - just got my new NFO Renegade last week. Maybe I'll get out next weekend. I'm torn between a maiden voyage and running up to NJ for the International Symposium. Problems, problems, problems . . .

Cheers all,

[cool][#0000ff]You don't need to break the budget for a fishing camera. Lots of suitable point and shoot models[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]for well under $200. I recently retired my 8 year old Olympus in favor of a new Pentax Optio W90. It is compact and waterproof. Recently posted about it and the chest pack I use to carry stuff. [#0000ff]Hope your schedule lightens up and allows some fishing time. All work and no play gives Jack a heart attack.[/#0000ff]

I agree. Cameras have come a long way and price has come down. I use a small Canon most the time because of different filters, but evan at that, probably still under $250.. Then the Kodak, water proof and about $120. However, this year I am getting a Go Pro.
Give a shout if you get the Renny wet.

[cool][#0000ff]And I need to get back up to SFCR. Not sure I would leave that lake to fish many of the ponds we have here in Utah. You got it good.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Silly humans. Seems like we always want what we can't have...or what the other guy has that we don't...even if what we got is better.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Oh yeah, the grass may be greener down here but the water is greener in SFCR. Been there done that. That's some nasty stuff at times.[/#0000ff]
