Favorite boots for ice fishing

If you plan on doing a lot of ice fishing, good warm boots will be one of your most important pieces of clothing. I wouldn't get anything less than 2,000 thinsulate, 2,400 ( for me anyway) is even better. Make sure they are water proof, not just water resistant. Boots are somewhat expensive but well worth the prices. Check out Sportsman's Guide (above) they have pretty good deals, and most of the time less expensive than Cabela's. Good Luck.

Man I love them!

Now they are on sale for just $110! I have terable feet and they get cold easily. These Infernos have eliminated the problem of cold feet from the equation.

I got size 14 just to make sure I had room for my size 12 feet and for special inner socks and wool socks. I strongly suggest that you too get a size or two larger to accomidate some wools.

I bought the Sorel Bear last yr.. Problem is they are not totaly water proof.. From where the rubber and mesh fabric meet they leak.. Great snow boot though.. +1 on the mickey mouse boots.

Many will do the job and keep you warm, but if for some reason you get them totally wet, like your foot going in an ice hole as you are first walking out and go in the water, since the insulation is totally sealed, you take the boot off wipe it out and put on a new sock and you are good as new. With other brands, it doesn't matter how warm they are when they are dry, when the insulation gets wet, your day may be over.

If you pack boots are leaking in the slush I have a $23 dollar fix that is great. I save it for the really slushy days.

The boots are 17" tall and I just throw my boot liners in them. Traction is lacking but I put on my ice cleats and all is well. When you go to the store take the boot liner in and fit them in the boot. Hope this helps.

I also am a fan of Baffin. I have the Barrow, they are the lines work boots -148 to 20 is the comfort range. they haven't leaked yet, but when I was is some serious berry slush I used the home depot boot and the Baffin liner.

For me, I gotta go with the military "bunny" boots. (white ones) A little bulky but once you get used to them, its worth not ever having cold feet. I have had mine full of ice cold strawberry water after getting the sleds stuck in the slush. Was out on the lake for at least another hour. My feet stayed totally warm. Took the boots off at the truck and they were full of water but my feet were steaming from being so warm. WARNING: Not for the thin skinned fisherman, you will get teased(and maybe fall down once or twice)
