Tayler and I hit the Willow again this a.m. Caught only 2 small fish. We fished all over the pond. I decided to try the north east cove and I found a used needle in the water.
Looked a little closer and found another one. I immediately went from happy to mad.
Called Murray City Police and they came and picked them up. Advised me there is not much they can do at this point. I thanked them for their service and they went on their way.
Question: Any one else ever found this crap on the water, and what about the fish there? are they safe to eat? I never keep fish out of the local ponds, but now I wonder about contamination. I know they are probably safe but still I wonder.
To Anglers at Willow: Watch where you place your hands. Could have very easily been poked by these needles.
To the person that left them there: You know what I hope happens the next time you shoot Up? You can guess, but it isn't good. I have no sympathy for you because you left your dangerous items where I take my Grand kids to fish. Better hope I never catch you shooting up there!

Ya that is disgusting! I have seen such garbage at bountiful pond as well as other local ponds. the junkie need a treble a two sunk it to their skin

Sorry couldn't make it Pa. This close to Black Friday and I am in retail....kind of says it all.

Many people use a needle to blow a worm up with air to keep it floating up off the bottom. This is very effective if you have never tried it. They also sell worm blowers if you don't like the needle thing. Hopefully this is what they were from.

Could it have been for a diabetic shooting insulin? Still most diabetics do the right thing and keep it away from areas where others can be poked. Who knows sometimes when that blood suguar gets too high or low they are not in the "right frame of mind" so to say.

That is very bothersome because I live about a block from there and have never seen anything like that. The worst I have seen is kids smoking dope along the river. But I am with you hopefully these dirt bags get what they deserve.

You should be fine eating fish out of there. AIDS is actually pretty fragile outside of the body. Hepatitis is a more hardy bug, but still you wouldn't get it from the fish. If you had an accidental stick, then there's a slight chance, but really it's miniscule after it's been floating around in there for who knows how long.
It's still pretty disgusting and disconcerting though. I was just asking myself today why I moved to Cache Valley when I saw that Salt Lake was sunny and in the 50s and we were foggy and in the 30s. Your post was a little reminder. Not that it doesn't happen here, but it's definitely less of a problem.

I agree it should be a treat to eating the fish. Heck people are eating fish full of Mercury, not to mention Utah Lake ...LOL
The fact the needles were discarded as they were tells me drugs as well, and add littering to that. If used for worms, pretty sure it would go back in tackle box.
And Insulin, well I am sure the user has done this for a few years and disgarding used needles is second nature.
I too think it is low life slugs. Did I mention, I really get a kick out of how someone made an ashtray right under the no smoking sign.
And I have gone to pick of fishing line before, only to find it attached to a spool inwhich a foreigner comes running from a distance to collect!
People don't seem to understand, abuse it enough, you are going to loose it!

You have no idea of what my character is or anything else about me for that matter.
My oldest son died of a drug overdose back in 1998, and I will hate drugs and people
that use them for the rest of my life. To leave drug needles at a place like willow pond is unforgivable to me. You are entitled to your opinion just like I am. If you don't like what I say in my posts then don't read them.

I say legalize heroin and make it readily available. The problem will take care of itself soon enough.[shocked]

To fish.....congrats you limited out PA. Spent a lot of time at the Sandy Pond and have yet to see a needle on the bank. Hopefully we never do.

issue to have to deal with but these places are a perfect haven for this type of activity. If you see it report it! If you want to catch them get some thermal imaging binos!
