So today started out exactly like yesterday. Crappy. I bascially did the same pattern today as yesterday, hitting the same first two banks with about the same results. Got a really nice 2.75 lb smallie at our first stop on a pig n jig. Picked up a couple of little spots, a blue cat, a drum, a yellow, and a little LM at our second spot. Got to talk with Rsimms and his company, boy does he have a fish to show.
The big difference between today and yesterday was time. Today I had all day to find some fish were yesterday I only had just over 2 hours. We made a move to my 3rd spot and found the mother load (see pic). The spot was a slack water area area and with the current over 45K the fish needed a place to rest. We sat in this one spot and killed fish. Boated crappie, spots, 1 little smallie, a LM, a shellcracker, and redbreates in this area and never moved the boat. We were catch them on ultra light 4 lb tackle using 3" Gulp minnows with just a tiny split shot. I would have liked to have used crappie jigs but I left them at home. emoBang I am convienced with crappie jigs we would have boated 100 fish today. We would get 2-3 hits per cast but the fish just could not eat the 3" minnow.
Hit a few more spots and caught a few more fish and called it a day at 2. Not bad for 6 hours of fishing. We also found the mother load of Gar. PM me if you want to try to catch some.
So today we boated:
18 spots
17 crappie
10 redbreasts
1 drum
2 smallies
3 largemouth
1 white stripe
1 shell cracker
1 yellow stripe
1 blue cat
55 fish boated and I know we lost another 20 or more with 10 different species. Fun, fun, fun. Water temp was a cool 58 degrees. I took home a livewell full of fish.
