Well with the cold temps and lack of snow I figured I would finally be able to ice fish Currant Creek. In years past, my truck and I could only make it to the ranch turnoff. At first i was pleasantly surprised at the skiff of snow that covered the road. With the dam in site i was eagerly awaiting to see what I hoped was hard deck. Craaaapppppp! Nothing but open water.[frown] There were a few small bays capped but it doesn't look like it will be safe for at least another 2 weeks.
What to do now? The only logical thing... make a huge loop and hit Scofield! Arrived there around 11 and cut some holes across from the state park boat ramp. Ice is about 4 inches thick. I started to pick up planter cutts pretty consistently, but kept hoping for a big tiger. After a dozen of the 12" cutts and a couple fat 13" bows I finally hooked a nice healthy 20" cutt. Strangely as the sun began to fade, the fish just hit the OFF switch. Not a nibble for the last hour.[crazy]
Long rollercoaster day, but like we always say.... "It beats working"!
