Mantua 12-11 (30 fish)
#1
Mantua - Headed to Mantua with my twin and CvFisher and arrived at 9:45am. I caught 1 rainbow trout at 16 inches and 5 Yellow Perch. My twin caught 11 yellow perch and 3 rainbows. CvFisher caught 6 rainbows, 3 perch, and 1 Bluegill. We moved about 5 times to find the sweet spot. Still 30 fish aint bad. The best action was in the afternoon.

We used a live line baits pumpkin pepper jig in 1/32oz (our "go to" on every lake) tipped with a night crawler. Others that worked were Tube Dude "hali style" jigs in pale perch color tiped with nightcrawlers and a sweedish pimple in green with mealworms. We stuck to the south and central side of the knoll all day. We left at 5:30pm.

Sounds like a good day for all. I think I'll target more Perch this season and get away from the Slimmers a little.

4 inches to 4.5 inches thick. Perfectly safe. Even the shoreline was in great shape.

Nice. Wish I had made it back out. Nice sized perch there. Sounds like you got onto more of them that we did. Our group had a bucket of gills, and slimers kept coming to visit. Plus a few bass, and only a small number of perch.
So you were closer to the knoll then? What water depth worked for ya? I think we sat on 10-12 ft. With a weedy bottom.

Hope to be hitting it again soon.

We tried 9 feet of water and 16 feet of water. The best fishing was semi away from the knoll. If I had "GPS" I would be more than willing to give out the coordnites.

The lonley bluegill came out of the 9 ft. range.

in the first pic was there a gap of open water or just clear ice?

Clear ice. No open water there except for the inlet. No need to worry. The ice I was on was pushing 6 inches. Lavaman can attest to that. Even the edges were nice and solid, unlike last year.

For sure- clear solid ice. The only place I would even be concerned about is right near the inlet.

It's at least 5 1/2" solid at the minimum everywhere but the inlet vicinity.
