Cascade report.
#1
Fished Cascade yesterday. Started out at Sugar Loaf boat ramp. I caught a couple, but the bite was slow and the guys I was with wanted to move. We moved up to Poison Creek. The fishing was very spotty, but we managed (kept) about 25-30 perch between 3 of us, and threw back several smaller ones and a small trout. About 1/2 the perch we kept were Jumbos, I think you could classify the other 1/2 as GIGANTORS. [Smile]

The thinest ice we found was around 6 inches and a nice, solid, blue ice. There are a lot of stress cracks, though, and several heaves in places around the lake.

P. S. Headed to Horsethief tomorrow. Expect a report on that around Sunday or so.

Good to hear I'm gonna head that way next week. Are you guys using a fish finder to find the perch?

The fish seem to be very scattered and in small bunches (1-5 fish or so) and hugging very tight to the bottom, so a fish finder to locate seemed just about useless. It was helpful to know when I had fish down there and to expect a bite, though. I saw most of my fish on the showdown before I caught them. It sure wasn't necessary, however, as both the guys I was with were fishing blind.

Myself and one of the other guys caught most of ours on something moving. The other guy did much better on his dead sticks. The fish also changed during the day. In the morning, I could get them to come 5-6 feet off the bottom to take my bait. In the afternoon and evening, it had to be right in their face.
