I haven't posted a report in a while so this is past due. I have stunk it up trying to fish deep lately so my last two to three trips I've pretty much fished a pre spawn pattern with some success. emoScratch I tied on one of my favorite traps and fished quite a bit shallower than most of the other boats I've seen out there. Ive been catching fish on traps spinnerbaits and 1.5 cranks. Put in at CFP at 7:30 and fished under the birds with no takers so moved aver to a sandy bank where a few fish were swirling and caught 4 spots on the 1.5 and a lm under a dock on a football jig. I cant buy a fish on a jerkbait emoBang I moved across river to a steep bank and worked my way into a nearby cove and caught maybe ten more fish on the trap but the key spots seemed to be on the windy side of the coves in the ripple. I caught maybe twenty fish but less than 5 were keepers. Its better than getting skunked. I also caught a small white crappie and a few white bass. The biggest fish was about 4lbs and I had something big pull off after some real good headshakes. The water was 45 to 46 on the river but in my two best spots it was closer to 50 and I think it made a difference. Fish are eating up on lots of nearly dead shad right now so its hard to get em to eat a bait. Fortunately it didnt rain much out there and weather wise it was pretty pleasant. Planning to go again Friday so I hope this pattern holds up.
