I know that there are a lot of you ice fishermen out there that live to sit on the ice and freeze to death but that is not me. I want to see dead water break out so that we can go up and catch the steelhead that I didn't get to last year. I'm thinking that it isn't going to happen until about Feb 23 any one else have any guesses? Sorry for any of you ice fishermen but ice GO AWAY!

If the warmer weather keeps up it should be early this year.
Feb 15 is my guess.

I think you guys are going to jinx it with your mid-Feb guesses. I want the fishing gods to hear me go on record saying that I think the late start to winter will mean winter will hang on extra late. I'm saying March 11 - my wife's birthday. The fishing gods wouldn't make it blow earlier than that just to vex me, now would they? (hope hope hope)

Just below North Fork as of 2/11. There is a section by the deadwater campground breaking out also.

Spoke with a guy yesterday that said deadwater is breaking up and the river is very muddy down stream of it. Hope it clears up by Sunday cause I'm planning on going out there. If not I guess I will fish closer to town.

Ok, I know that the dead water is the giant slab of ice on the river, but what affect does it have on the fishing? I'm thinking that the fishing is better after but why?
Also, if I wanted to head up the canyon this week to fish the popular holes, how would the roads be? Would a car make it up there or do I need 4 wheel drive?
