Carters Lake Report
#1
The Lake is at full pool and clear. Water temps are 68 to 70 degrees. STRIPERS: The striper fishing has been very good this week. Lots of bait fish and stripers are around the mouths of the creeks and up the Coosawatee river all the way up to the "No house boats" sign. Surface activity is a little spuradic but getting better If you do see fish busting bait on top they will eat a 6" cordelle redfin in Chrome Blue or chrome black back, a white bucktail jig or Zoom super fluke. Flatlines on a ballon and free lines with live bait such large gizzard shad or shinners pulled 80 to 100 feet behind the boat are working well early and late afternoon. when the sun gets high our best producer has been the umbrella rig. troll a 3 oz rig with 5 - 1oz white bucktail jigs and white or chartruese trailors. with 140ft of line out over points in the area's maentioned above. the rig will run 18 to 22 ft deep. SPOTTED BASS: lots of fish are folling bait into the back halfs of the creeks and the Coosawatee river..small deep running crankbaits in various brown or orange crawfish patterns have been catching a few nice fish for us but the more consitant pattern seems to be on the steep rock ledges with blowdowns and fish them with a finesse worm on the texas rig. the green pumpkin and watermelon seed colors have been working well. also try the the 1/4 oz brown jig & pig as the fish are begining to feed on crawfish more now..most of the fish seem to be holding 15 to 20 ft on the blowdowns and brush piles presently, but they will move up and down on them as the water level fluctuates and the weather changes so fish the trees all the way from the bank down to the tops until you determine what depth they are holding.
