Great news for sportsmen that have been following the saga of LightSquared's attempt to fast-track approval of its wireless system that would have played havoc with the GPS receivers that we fishermen and hunters rely upon.
After a year of testing and dialogue with LightSquared, GPS users groups, and the U.S. military, the Federal Communications Commission has found that there is no immediate solution to interference problems found in testing GPS units in the presence of the types of signals that LightSquared is proposing. The FCC will indefinitely suspend LightSquared's authority to carry terrestrial broadband signals on frequencies close to GPS frequencies after receiving a report that concludes the two systems cannot currently coexist.
That's a huge win for those of us who rely on GPS!!
