My improved clintch knot

If you go through the eye twice and make sure your line doesn't overlap then do the traditional (clinch knot) your tying the TRILENE knot.


If you go the extra bit and run back up through the extra loop at the top that makes an Improved Clinch Knot then you are still tying a Trilene knot and using the final part of the Improved Clinch Knot.


I do the same freaking thing. LoL. There is no name for this knot and knot wars hasn't used it yet but I am sure we aren't the only two that use the trilene knot and just put that extra (improved) bit by putting the line up through the top loop.

Guess it should be called the (Improved Trilene Knot).

By the way Trilene developed this knot specifically for MONOFILAMENT line to keep it from slipping. You need to leave at least 1/8 of an inch when cutting the leftover line after the knot is tied.

And be sure that the second loop through the hook eye doesn't overlap for this knot to secure properly.

I just wanted to add this about knots. When I tie my knots I take my time. The extra minute or two is worth the effort.

I make sure I wet the line before pulling it secure and then I inspect the knot visually to ensure it tightened correctly. I then wrap a couple of strands of line around my hand and take the lure securely and pull until the knot breaks or the line is digging into my hand and I know the knot is secured properly.

Most fish are lost at the knot. Making sure you have tied your knot properly is the most important thing you should consider along with what line type your using. Each knot is different for certain line types.

For my monofilament that I use most I do the Trilene knot or Trilene knot with that extra (improved) loop.

I wonder which one of us came up with that knot first,you know I had a feeling you used it,I guess its an old school knot,just like us "oldschool".I remember as a kid tying it without going through the eye twice,it was only later I began to do so,like wine we get better with age Paulpro.Thanks for adding those pro tips for me[]I'd like to call it the improved Paul knot,plus I posted it first[laugh] [laugh]

My father showed me that knot along time ago. Seemed stronger to me, so I never stopped useing it. Palomar is the only knot I use for braid. Wet the line and test it before you throw it. It will work great or not at all.

Im also a fan of the palomar. Ive had a problem with other knots actually cutting through themself. Have not had any problems with mono or braided using this knot.
Palomar is considered a no-slip knot and its the only one ive used for a while.
