Bass spawn at Lake Lowell?
#1
I'm curious roughly when the largemouth and smallmouth spawn at Lake Lowell.

I grew up about two miles from the lake, but didn't fish it very much as a kid. I'm looking forward to getting out there a little this spring/summer... I'll be the harmless guy with a fly rod!

I think the warm weather a 10 days ago set the females in motion a bit early, and due to the cold weather now they have backed off. I haven't seen any sign of fish spawning yet. I believe that they average spawning around the end of May. They seem to like the full moon, but with it this week I don't think that will coincide with the spawn. I'd bet on about 2-3 weeks from now if it get a bit warmer. But it doesn't all happen at one time. It could be spread out over weeks.

The old saying is that the bass spawn when the purple lilacs bloom. Well, when the weather got warm the lilacs bloomed. But then it got cold and the bass backed off. The lilacs can't back off... I guess that ends that old theory.

Thanks. Like I said, just curious because I've spent no time on the lake as an adult... just a long time ago as a kid!
