Strawberry Crawfish

Is it too early in the year to catch crawfish in strawberry? I've seen posts online saying they caught bunches, and they were posted in July, but is that just because it's more comfortable to be out there at that time?

Is there a good place to shoot for on the lake? It looks like it's windy today and tomorrow 9 mph after about 9:00 PM. Would this make it tough to catch them (waves on the shores)

I have caught them the end of June before but they were small. July, August and September have been the best for me

I seem to recall seeing mudbugs/crawfish/crayfish/crawdads in Strawberry this time of year.

Wear polarized lenses, and look along a rocky shoreline, you should find plenty of them.

I called the DWR and they said they are out there now, so we may take a crack at them.

Any pointers on where to find them? Since we'll be leaving the area after dark, I'd like to be able to park kind of close. I was thinking of one of these areas on the attached map.

we got about 10 by hand at the laders win the ice was still coming off there were lots there

We were there Wednesday, and while it was windy, we saw a lot of decent-sized crawdads around the Soldier Creek launch. I don't know if it was because the water was cold (48 degrees), but they were easy to catch.

Take the road to the damn, turn right on the dirt road before you get to the lake. That road will take you over by some rocky shoreline' Tie a chicken leg on the end of your fishing pole line, toss it out about 10' slowly drag it in when the dad's grab on (drag it over a fishing net in the water. You'll get them 4-5 at a time. The more you fish for em the more they will come a runnin. They come from far and wide after the chicken. I take the kids and grand kids there all the time. 5 gal buckets fill up pretty quick
