Went swimming... er ... Fishing
#1
Went and hit a local river today. I missed a step and I was laying flat on my back in about 18 inhes of water. [mad] My phone was soaked and is currently in a bag of rice.

One interesting development was that when I stood up, I had the biggest stonefly nymph I've ever seen on my leg. It was close to 3" long and was scurrying to get back in the water. I've used smaller nymphs as bait back when I was younger, but those were more like 1" long.

So my waders are soaked, inside and out, my ankle is killing me, my phone is potentially dead, and I was attacked by the godzilla of the stonefly world. Not sure if that's a good day or a bad day.

Oh, and I picked up a blue fox spinner and a husky jerk that someone had snagged.

Matt.

Sounds like my kind of trip. At least you got some lures out of the deal.

Too funny I laugh cause I've taken a few swims myself Ive even floated the green without a raft [pirate]

I think everyone at some point falls murky water, a loose rock, or slippery rock snot and bam down you go its all part of the game we call fly fishing [cool]

Sounds like a salmonfly nymph. Time to make sure I always have some salmonfly patterns with me.

Yep! I have a pack of size 2 nymph hooks that I can't remember buying, but I tied up a couple of Bitch Creek nymphs on them using doubled embroidery floss instead of chenille for the orange/yellow. I'll probably do up some sizes 6 & 10 today also.

To get one to match the size of the on crawling on me, I'd probably have to tie it on one of my 6/0 plastic worm hooks. [crazy]
Or a 12xl size 2.

I armor up now every time I fish because I'm a klutz and usually go for a swim, but I end up on my front instead of back. Banging knees on rocks hurt so I wear knee pads under the waders. A few years ago a buddy and I went fishing for what we expected to be the last time in a while because both our wives were due to deliver our first kids within days. I worked a deeper section of the lower Provo for a while fishing swift mid-thigh water. When I decided to move my legs were cold/numb--2 steps, about 10 stumbling 1/2 steps and in I went to the bottom. Cellphone was man overboard. Waders were ripped open by the sharp rock that also gave me the gouge right below my kneecap that took 8 stitches to close and required follow on antibiotics because my whole leg swelled up from infection. And I didn't catch any fish.

One note--come up with any other story other than you cut yourself fly fishing if you need stitches. Everything sounds cooler and will probably get you less sh!& from the ER doc Smile
