Color Coordinated Allen Rig

I didn't really plan it this way, but when I finally got my Allen 6wt rigged with sinking line, it turned out so stylish that even my wife was impressed.

Its an Allen Trout 2 reel in gun metal with black spool; Allen Myth rod 6wt in green; yellow backing; blue sinking line; and a brown "Furled Girl" leader from Flygoddess

It performs as good as it looks.

That's nice. I took my ugly brown sage 7'6" 4 wt with an old beat up battenkill reel out yesterday to my favorite small stream for a couple hours. Ended up with about a hundred trout including a 20 and 24 inch bow. Fortunately the trout I fish for don't have any fashion sense[sly].
If the 2 guys that pulled up right after I started only to get warned by my dog to stay away see this. Sorry about that and hope you did well after you hiked a mile upstream. That dog has a sixth sense about where the trout are and gets mighty protective when the stream is stacked with trout like that.

Pretty setup but did you send that poor rainbow into orbit when you set the hook with that 7 wt[laugh]. I hate it when I launch little fish into the woods and have to go track them down.

Those are awesome outfits. Who made them and are they old (they look new)? As to casting, how do they compare to modern rods? It must be good to be the FG []

They are relatively new. 2000's Orvis. One is a Penn's Creek two tip two piece, the other a Battenkill two tip three piece. Reels, the one is an older Hardy and then the retro looking one is Borger.

I was looking for a picture from Alaska last summer when I saw a picture of my ugly setup with a rainbow that was 19 inches from last summer. It was caught on the same place as I fished Sunday. Didn't have the camera Sunday. I use that 7"6" 4 wt in tight places where big fish are a possibility. I conservatively estimate that rod and reel have landed 5,000 fish as it is my work horse in the tight canyons of my favorite water in the state for the last 7 years. Sort of like an old beat up pick up that never breaks down under a load and you can't bear to replace. It is also the one that I lost for 20 minutes the very next trip out on this stream only to have it miraculously pop up next to me. That is also the last big bow I've kept from this tiny stream as I swore to the fish gods not to repeat my sins after they showed mercy on me and gave my rod back. Best $250 investment toward fishing I ever made.

Wow, trying to imagine how many fish on one rod and reel...don't think I could do that.
I do not have any spin fishing or bait fishing gear, just fly so I do have a few choices that get used.
Maybe I should start counting fish, seems like a popular thing to do these days[sly]

The thing about that stream is it's consistency. While I probable got around a hundred fish on Sunday that was a fluke. It seems 90% of the time I get something around 40-60 per afternoon. I fish it easily 15-20 times a year for the past decade. I've had that rod 7 years. I don't really count except occasional for the first half hour or so. I think most people have a rough idea how many fish the caught in an outing without counting. Granted on any other stream I fish or rod I own the numbers caught vary way too much for me to make a reasonable long term estimation. But that is the stream by far and a way I fish the most since a few year before the first time I met you. I use the same rod and reel consistently there. I don't use that rod and reel all that much elsewhere as I prefer a little longer rod when I have more room or lighter rod where the fish are typically smaller in tight quarters. Anyway that rod besides being a ugly brown to start has been banged against canyon walls and trees so many times it isn't pretty. Just very reliable.
FG, You should join me sometime on this stream, it's amazing for it's size. I think you said it was a favorite of your old boss when you worked for Orvis.
