Fishing Bicycle

Yes, I meant that as the subject. I'm fishing Mantua Reservoir, Utah today for a $2 million fish then I'll buy a sailboat and go deep sea fishing.

The reservoir is surrounded by a dyke with a road with motorized vehicles prohibited. It would be excellent for bicycling and there are recreational bicyclists doing just that while I was shore fishing a moment ago and soon to return with pontoon boat fishing.

Similarly, Provo River, Utah has a nice bicycle trail and many fishing places will be great for bicycle transport of me with more fishing gear than I would otherwise want to carry.

Being a bicycle racer, this should work well for me. I've been wanting a mountain bike anyway, so I'll buy one and load it up with my fishing gear, rod holders an even a custom lightweight trailer for my pontoon boat (see picture).

I can even go downstream on the Provo River with the bicycle and trailer as cargo and then tow the pontoon boat back with the bicycle and trailer (strap on tiny wheels).

It can haul camping gear, too.

What ideas do you have for a fishing bicycle?

I just ate and am about to unstrap and carry my pontoon boat over the dyke to the reservoir and fish. It will be nice to trailer it around when I get it set up with a mountain bicycle. Your project is what I'm thinking, but I will make mine for hauling more.

Fly Fishing is wonderful. My rods are in tubes maybe 24" long. Easy to strap to handle bars which I do. Add a small bike trailer.

Weighs under 30 lbs. Add boot foot hip waders and side bag or bags...good to go.

I'm adding this update to a subject I started years ago.

I'm going fishing Friday and I'm asking advise from my friends here on places to fish that are good choices for shore fishing a lot of distance along the shore by covering distance quickly by bicycle.

Presently, my only bicycle is still my narrow tire road racing bicycle.

But, eventually I'll buy and set up and dedicate a bicycle as my fishing bicycle and that will be better for rough terrain, so on fishing locations that have a bicycle trail along the shore, please include both those that have smooth paved and rough trails.

I've left my bicycle behind on most fishing since I've been ice fishing, wader fishing, boat fishing and mostly fishing with others.

But, Friday will likely be like a April day even though it's early February and I'd like to enjoy this nice day with both riding and shore fishing for both fishing fun and getting some exercise particularly since I haven't had much time for bicycling the last few years.

I didn't want to have to pick between the two. I enjoy them both, so I want to combine bicycling and fishing.

Anyone wanting to join me for bicycle fishing Friday is invited, so let's pick a destination from what gets suggested.

Provo River and The Jordan River both have nice bicycle trails. What else has good shore fishing with a trail along the shore?

I prefer to fish reservoirs for now because I'm casting and retrieving lures and have a lot of new ones to try (fly fishing rivers will be another day when I get into that again), so please post on all sorts including reservoirs.

I'm in Sandy, Utah. But, good bicycle shore fishing locations even far away can be considered for when I use some vacation days and this subject is also open to all of us everywhere since many of us might be interested in shore fishing by bicycle.
