Owyhee Reservoir 5/19
#1
My dad, a couple buddies, and I decided to go chase some crappie at Owyhee yesterday. I was surprised to see the parking lot almost full when we pulled up. I'm not sure what club it was, but they were having a tournament.

We ran up past the community and slowly fished our way back down, trying different structure. We found fish anywhere from about 4 to 15 feet. They seem to be pretty tightlipped. We would catch a few in one spot, and that would be about it. The only real consistent place we seemed to catch fish was on points. We were throwing a good selection of grubs and tubes in different colors. We also tried tipping with maggots, worms, and crappie nibbles. I threw a roadrunner most of the day. They didn't really seem to prefer one over the other.

We only ended up with 10 nice crappie, averaging about 11 inches. Talking with other boats it seemed most people were struggling. When we got back the dock, there were quite a few people weighing in. I saw five different guys who brought in less than 5 pounds.

All in all it was a nice day though. The weather was just about perfect, and most of the fish we caught were of quality size.

If you want crappie go up to Leslie Gulch. Fishing has been some the best in years. As many as you want in the 12-14 inch range. It's been going off for over a month now.

Thanks for the tip. I have never been to Leslie Gulch. I looked it up on MapQuest and was surprised to see that it's about the same travel time as driving to the dam, from my house.

I see they have a boat ramp, but the information I found says it is designated for small watercraft. I have a 20 foot G3 pontoon boat, would it be possible for me to launch there? Also, are there any docks available? I use a wheelchair and I need a pretty good dock in order to get on the boat.

I appreciate any info.

I've seen some pontoons in there before but it would take you longer as the road can get a little washboardy. Unfortunately there is no dock there. Best fishing is up from LG and that is a long haul from the dam. Not a bad deal to make a couple day camp trip out if it though.
