Best Trip Advice
#1
Hi, my name is David and I am looking for some advice. My brother and I grew up in south Texas and about 10 years ago moved to Colorado. We finally have the resources to get back to Texas for some fly fishing. The problem is we have never fished in the salt and hear it can be a little complicated. Our tentative plan is to fish the lower laguna madre targeting reds and trout hopefully. Dates for the trip will be mid to late June. Any advice on where to look, timing tides, flies (especially for trout),what type of water to look for, good fly shops, or anything else you guys can think of would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When I lived in Houston and fished the texas coast we used to catch huge redfish on crab lures ...

If you are gonna fly fish you might consider wavefishing.com's crab.

Clear black gold flake.

or the shrimp:

we always just used the local crabs broke in half under a popper float.

I caught my largest in Galveston Bay doing that.

If you're want them on flies I I don't know.

On a fly rod use that lure I suggested and you will probably do well.

If you make your own flies probably anything silver or gold .. but don't combine the two.

if you fly fish you know what I mean by that ... get the head right and then do not combine silver or gold just make each of the flies distinct.

Probably something large with fluorocarbon so it sinks fast and with quick jerks...

Just my advice.
