Ok so I have about 100 to spend on a new reel, it would be my spinnerbait reel so probably a 7:1:1? And I've heard good and bad about the BPS pro qualifier. I heard about the anti reverse going out and I also looked at the orra sx. I heard orra sx had problems. I have a shaman canenan and love it for my softplastics. What would y'all recommend?

Are burning 3/8 and 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits? 7.1 seems way fast for a spinnerbait reel. I like 5.5 or 5.1 ratios for throwing blades. I mostly throw 1/2 and 3/4oz spinnerbaits and the faster reels put a load on my wrist. The slower reels allow you to really slow roll the lures.
You have some good advice here a Curado 5.1 or Abu Garcia Toro Winch 5.5 is a good option. Hit up ebay, always deals there.
I admit, I do throw 5/8 oz single willow blades on faster reels when fishing shallow bushes or burning the bait across the surface, kind of an under water buzz bait where the disturbance of the blade just barely leave a wake on the surface.
Again, think slower speeds with a spinnerbait, especially if you throw larger lures. If you only throw the lighter baits then I would still only use 6.3 or 6.4 at the fastest.
Good topic. I have been swaping between my 5.1 and 6.4 reels on my spinnerbait rod for the last year and always come back to the slower reel.
Good Luck

So you like those slower gear ratios for spinnerbaits? I've thought about switching reels to a 5:1 or 5:3 for my spinnerbaits but I just slowly reel in my 6:3. I use the same rod/reel for swimbaits and it puts a strain on by wrist. Ill have to try a lower gear and see if it helps.

try out the abu garcia fishing reels. there is the blackmax, silver max, and promax. blackmax being around 40-50 dollars, silvermax is about 60-70, and promax is around 80-90. All are quality reels and i have used them all at one point in time. at the time since money is tight, i went with the silver max and have used it for at least 8 months and i havent greased the gears or anything and it works fine. and the silvermax has a flipping switch aswell.
