Ririe Boat Inspections
#1
If you are headed to Ririe to fish or ski be prepared to have your boat inspected by the sheriff's department. They were writing tickets as fast as boats could pull down to the dock today. No PFD's, No Throw cushion or flotation, no whistle or signal, no registration and the list goes on.

If you are going there on the weekend and you aren't sure what you need you should go to a Coast Guard site and look up what your boat needs to pass inspection.

What really amazes me is the people taking small children out on the water that can't pass inspections! [Image: scaredworried.gif]

If you have everything you are supposed to have on your boat you can get a sticker for the year's inspections. It will keep you from being boarded by the Coasties or other state's sheriff's departments!

Oh, and the fish are starting to bite. [fishin]

Timely reminder for all. Make sure you are equipped correctly especially with pdfs.

I see that the 4 who were swept under the head gates on the South Fork weren't wearing life jackets either. It was lucky that they all survived.

My buddy bought a jetboat, and was wanting to get it inspected. Took it to the courthouse in Idaho Falls, and was told that they do the inspections at the ramps. It appears, from reading this post, that tickets were being given to people arriving without the sticker. What's up with that. Bogus information? Bad assumption?

I took 2 of my boys to Blacktail today. We fished from about 6:45 a.m to 1:30 p.m. We boated 12 fish. Pretty good for a 10 yr old and a 7 year old running there own gear. They hooked about 20 more but we had trouble gettin them in the boat. I think they learned alot today. Dad learned a little more about patience! Nice fish Don, we didn't get anything like that. Our biggest was 14'' but they put up a pretty good fight. I passed my boat inspection no probs at blacktail. Things you must have to pass; pfd for each person, (children must be wearing), a pfd to throw, whistle, fire ext., and registration stickers and papers.

The tickets were for missing gear like, boat registration, life jackets and whistles or horns and such. The sheriff's dept is always courteous at these surprise inspections and happily give out stickers to boats that pass. Mine is set for the Ocean Coastguard inspections where they board your boat at sea so it's pretty easy to pass the Idaho inspection.

I understand the Sheriff's dept. in Rigby will give you a free inspection and sticker as well.
