Hey guys, so my dad and I headed out for a little fathers day fishing up here. I have fished Stanley Lake from shore before but never from a boat. Today we had a boat and a fish finder so this was a lot more fun. Kodiak1 from BFT gave me a few tips on targeting the lake trout there and with a stop at McCoy's tackle shop in Stanley we were on our way.
After about ten min we started metering what I assume to have been lake trout, appearing as nice sold red dots on the 200khz and as boomerrangs on the 50khz. We metered lots of fish from the inlet down along the southern part of the lake throughout the day. Anywhere from 30 feet deep to just off the bottom at 70+ feet we were getting returns on the meter. We kept to 50-80 feet of depth the whole time.
Unfortunately that was as close as we got to any fish today. We had a downrigger and fished a variety of lures, from krocs to countdown rapalas to flatfishes. Something was either wrong with our presentation or the fish didn't want to bite.
I attached a picture from today(the pup came with us too []), as well as a Bathymetric chart of Stanley Lake I found after about an hour of searching for one on the internet. Had to dig deep in one of those scientific papers. Maybe it will be of use to somebody. It helped us stay oriented today as first time boaters on the lake.
hope to get out again in the next week and try it again there.
