A friend recently told me that a friend of his told him that they saw some people catching a big mess of large whitefish near the dam at Rockport. I wasn't aware that Rockport even had whitefish. Does anyone know anything about anyone catching whitefish at Rockport?

Whitefish are all up and down the Weber River. No reason to think that they wouldn't find their way into the Reservoir.

Yeah, I've caught whitefish on the upper Weber so I suppose they'd be in Rockport too...

OK, so the story is plausible...
Are whitefish any good to eat? What's the best way to catch them?

I've seen a really big one caught through the ice.
Small lures close to the bottom and in the rocks, I'd think, like half-worms and the like.
White fish smoke up awesome and eat OK if cooked like trout. I steaked one bigger one once and broiled it with a teriyaki sauce and liked it a lot. They can be soft and not as good as trout, but I remember that one being firm and sweet.

If you like the taste of liquified butt hole, then you'll love Whitefish.
