a few months ago I had the opportunity to head up to jackson. We planned to fish the snake but the night we got there, the river was blown out. Decided to try our hand on Jackson lake because we heard the ice came off the night before we arrived. Wow, what an experience we had. No joke, we were throwing streamers right off the dock (keep in mind it was about 25 degrees and not a soul in site). That was my first experience catching lake trout. It was about half and half between lake trout and beautiful cutthrouts. The fish were in very shallow water, it was almost like bass fishing. throwing wooly buggers right into the boat slip and watch the lake trout come right out from under it and slam the streamer. Ended up catching about 50/person/day. An experience I will never forget. This is a picture of one of the larger fish we caught, a fish and game warden was watching us because he told us he had never seen anyone catch a fish off of the dock before and especially not a lake trout. He actually didn't believe us at first so we had to prove him wrong. the picture is of a lake trout caught right under the wardens feet on the dock. He measured it at 28 inches and 7.5 lbs and later released it. He was completely shocked that we were catching fish that way.
