Deer Creek 18 Aug 2012 AM
#1
My father and I generally take our trips up to the Berry but given the great reports recently from Deer Creek we decided to stop a little earlier and fish there.

The rainbows were on early and often. I caught the first (and largest) just outside the wakeless zone of at the mouth of Wallburg bay. We were still letting lines out.

After hooking up a couple there, we thought the fishing might be faster at the very popular inlet. And it was.

We ended up landing 15 fish (12 Trout, 2 Perch), we lost five more at the boat (3 played off as the were going to be released anyway), and had another half dozen or so hook ups. We released all but 5 trout the perch.

We were mostly trolling with rapalas... although some trolled flies did well early too.

The fishing pressure there is extreme however.... I talked to a few other anglers and A LOT of fish left that lake yesterday.

No idea how long the good times will last there with that kind of depletion, but it sure was a great day yesterday.

We went up today to check the newly repaired motor on our Aluminum boat (missed my pontoon[Wink])
I was using a Type II line casting a couple of flies bouncing off the rocky shores. It was Bass, and gill just about every cast. They are fun. Forgot all abpout the Trout[laugh][laugh]
With all the traffic that lakes and the money it takes in, a bigger boat ramp would be smart move. Launch and loading up is a night mare.

I can agree that a bigger better boat ramp would be great. But maybe putting the no wake zone out a little further from the ramp would be good too. I've noticed that the biggest wake board, ski boats and wave runners tend to reach those markers and stay right there playing at wide open throttle sending giant waves right at the ramp and dock. I have fished there the past six weekends and every time it is a fight to just get down the ramp let alone launch and load. Like you said flygoddess a nightmare.
