You've probably heard that Michigan has over 11,000 inland lakes and 36,000 miles of rivers and streams...but have you thought about how to explore them?
Spend a couple of hours learning to kayak, and you'll be able to get off the shore and into adventure. Practice getting safely get into and out of a kayak, learn paddling techniques and lots more at a Kayaking 101 class at one of the following parks:
Bay City Recreation Area in Bay City, Aug. 17, 24 and 31
Baraga State Park in Baraga, Aug. 18<br />
Mitchell State Park in Cadillac, Aug. 19 and 26<br />
Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, Aug. 22 (Ladies only!)<br />
Waterloo Recreation Area in Chelsea, Aug. 25
These are just a few of the DNR's free "learn how to do it" programs in the Recreation 101 series. Others include topics such as Fishing 101, Geocaching 101, Archery 101, Outdoor Cooking 101 and many more! Check out the Recreation 101 calendar to see the full lineup.
