Starting school at The U and Jordan River kitties!
#1
Hey guys! I moved up here to West Jordan last week to start school at the U and was looking to do a bit of anglin'. I have a soft spot for the cats so my cousin and I decided to hit the Jordan Riv around 12600 S. We waded around and fished a few nice looking holes and ended up with a few decent cats 2 - 6 lbs. I have no real knowledge of the area and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on fishable sections of the river and whatnot. And if anyone would like to join me that would be even better! Gracias.

Now hold on there a minute Hawg -- the way I see it you are still a legal resident of Green River, Utah even while attending the U, so any cats you catch must be entered in the contest on the South team! We cannot afford to lose a good catter on the South team. [Smile]

I appeal to you Coyotespinner to back me up on this request in the name of fair competiton and sportsmanship..... and, we need the help down here.

And... good luck to you at the U. Hawg. Got my grad degree from that great institution and my undergrad from the Y. Devided loyalties at the rate of 51% blue and 49 % red. I cheer both ways.

Ha thats funny...I just started at the U as well. Made it through week 1. I sometimes fish near 12600 S. as well.....From what i've encountered, it's either really good fishing or crappy fishing. There's been days where I catch 4-5 fish in this 1 hole and they're usually 18 inches or bigger but then there's days when I catch smallish carp.....

Thanks, BoatLoad. I'm having a pretty good time so far. I'm not too crazy about the 45 minute commute on Trax, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm debating on whether or not to start a cattin' club on campus. I'm not sure if there would be enough interest in it to work. We'll see what happens.
Lunatic that's sick! I took two years off so it's kind of weird getting back into school mode. What are you studying? And when you fish the Jordan, do you usually go for cats? I've heard that there are plenty of white bass and wallies in there too. I only fished for channels and have done well every time. I'm thinking of dedicating a weekend to finding the cattin' hotspots around town. I need to make a trip to Utah Lake and Willard Bay to see what's up. If you ever need a fishing buddy let me know, I'm always down to wet a line.

Are u for real man? I take trax to lol! Which trax station do u go to? I go to the one on 2700 west and like 8600 or so south. It's a redline train that goes to university medical. I'm 18 years old and straight outta high school...My goal is to become a personal trainer and they actually have a very good program for it at the U. Right now I'm just doing generals though...I started fairly easy, I only have 3 classes: Art Now, History and Anthropology. I go to school on Mondays, Weds,Thursays. So I have 3 day weekends every week!

As for the Jordan, I'm pretty good at fishing it...this year I havent EVER gotten skunked. I always set out in search of a particular type of fish. Its hard to explain but I can tell what's going to be in a particular spot you're fishing. I'd say i'm about 75% accurate and of course there's days I'm wrong but I know where to fish to mostly catch channel cats, suckers, carp and mud cats. I've actually NEVER caughten any fish at utah lake or the jordan near it. 12600S. is the farthest south I've been fishing on the Jordan. Me and my dad tried once last year near the pump house but I was a noob fisherman then and we got skunked. But yeah man I'm available literally like EVERY day because even on school days, I'm home by like 4 P.M.

Oh and dude there's white bass EVERYWHERE..... I was so excited to first catch them but now I hate it. The biggest I've caught is like 9 inches lol. If u don't let what ever ur using stay on the bottom, u won't keep the white bass off ur pole. I don't know how to catch wall eye and have never seen 1 or caught 1 lol!

If any man would become better at catching ol CC the channel catfish, let him study the pages of Catfish Fever, the good book on catfishing. bosshawg and I have learned nearly all we know from it. It has increased the size of channel cats we have caught exponentially. One tip from it is to use natural baits, with oily baitfish like suckers and chubs being prime. We catch nearly all of our big cats on these baits and lovingly call them hillary rodham ( utah sucker ) and mike posner ( utah chub ). But remember release the bigs cats, they grow very slowly and are hard to replace. Cats Ho!

Aye, Zacker speaks the truth. I believe every person who considers themselves a catter must read it. It really is the good book of cattin'. We headed south from the parking lot a little ways then worked our way up maybe a mile or so. Dude, Lunatic, I have weekends off and I get home on Mondays and Fridays by about 4...ish. I have class and work all day Tues-Thursday. We should hit the Jordan soon. My bait is taking up more freezer space than I thought haha.
