Hello Geezer,

I had some tendonitis in my right elbow last October from pulling up a 300+ man who fell while fishing. It would really hurt when I did a long cast so I decided to switch the reel from right to left.

I practiced casting with the left hand in our half-Olympic sized pool before going out fishing again. I'm not as good with my left as with my right hand but it worked till the elbow healed. I don't know if you can use your left hand but it could be a temporary solution till your rotator cuff heals.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Good luck with the surgery. Hopefully it will be a long, wet winter so we have water to fish in next spring.

I've been on "light duty" the last couple months but still managed to get out. Recovery seemed like it would be forever but things are getting better and I can walk like a normal person now. Sprained ankle and acl injury, I'm still not 100% but getting close.
Healing takes time, hang in there buddy.

If you have a rotator cuff injury it way better to get it fixed as soon as possible.

My wife had on that she just lived with for years and complained about from time top time. By the time that she couldn't stand it anymore the surgery was way more intense than if she had went in earlier.

She spent six weeks with her arm strapped down and kept completly inmobile. For most of that time she was on some heavy pain killers too and if she wasn't asleep then she was hurting after I took the pain pump out of her shoulder.

Then at almost eight weeks after the surgery is when they started therapy and that was another round of pain to go through.

When she fell during Christmas a couple of years later she tore her cuff on her other shoulder. This time she took the doctors advice and went right into surgery a few day later.

Her recover after that surgery was two weeks in the sling with us pulling the arm out to work on her range of motion so that it wouldn't have to be gained back during therapy. By the time the doctor said that she was good on this one she wasn't even out of her sling on the first time around.

The thing that we were told is that there is very little blood flow into the cuff itself so any kind of healing that needs to take place is very slow. So a little more damage can take alot longer to heal.

I know I should get it checked to find out if that is what's wrong but it's been a little better lately and it just hurts it hasn't limited me much. I've also heard that exercises can help restore it if it isn't too bad so I'd prefer to try this first and hope it will work. It is rough to fly cast for steelhead though. One day it hurt so bad I had to almost quit fishing I was considering surgery then but it's a lot better now. I appreciate your concern and guess I shouldn't be so bullheaded but there's no good time to go in for surgery I always have something going. Later J

didn't see ya offer to fork out for the shrink wrap!

GL on the shoulder. Had my share - a double drop cross country ski plop done me in. Wasn't rotator cuff, but soulder's are a mess of criss crossing muscle, sinew, bone. . . always something.
Had my 4 wks with arm propped - at a foamy 45. Recliner done me good. The things you don't realize - like putting on a belt, or wiping your arse - there's some real challenges in life!

To regain mobility - I had to stretch what wanted not to be stretched. Guess pain is it's own drug sometimes....
rehab, hmmm - all that great equipment, and they give me rubber bands. Somehow I can't help but think if I was young, hot, and foxy - I'd get more "personal attention" from the personnel.

Good luck. Follow the docs orders- eh? Funny how the older we get the longer it takes to return from such a simple thing as a twisted ankle...
