Strawberry bass question?
#1
I am thinking of heading to Strawberry tomorrow and would love to catch a bass just to say I did.
I PROMISE I will not keep it! I just need some tips. I usually do fairly well on bass at Starvy, DC, Powell, Jordanelle, etc. so I would say I have medium bass catching skills.
PM's very welcome if anyone chooses not to share on the open forum.
Thank you, Shane

Strawberry is mostly a trout fishery, but there has been a few accounts from some who have caught some bass out of there. The bass were most likely the product of a bucket biologist if you do catch a bass yes keep it.

I believe there are smallies in there. My guess would be they will be stacked up at the main marina, there's good structure, and chances are if the DWR planted them, it would have been right there? Just my opinion. I've always wanted to go there and drop shot for them.

Feel silly for not checking your facts and jumping to conclusions?
I bet you don't believe there are trout in Powell either.

I figure that the few people who know how to catch Strawberry's bass really don't want them removed. I thought by mentioning I would only c&r might earn me some tip cred.
Sadly, no luck on the smallies today.

I fished pretty hard for them today. I drop shotted power minnows and also pitched double tail craw imitations on lead heads. No luck on the smallies.
I ended up with 21 rainbows and 2 cutts and probably at least that many misses due to trying to run two poles.
Good luck if you head up there for smallies!

I have been hearing rumors of bass in the berry... never confirmed it in person. Ive never seen anyone pull a bass out there. So no I don't feel silly. The place is too high up in the elevation to support a strong bass fishery anyways. Im sure theres a stray or two in there thanks to bucket biologists.
