Allen Flyfishing is Awesome!!!
#1
Big shoutout to Justin and Evan at Allen Flyfishing. I have had an Allen Triut reel on my back-up rod for over a year, had an issue with the drag last November, sent it in and a new drag was installed and sent back within a few days. I bought two Alpha reels for my saltwater rods and took them to Florida with me last month.

My 7/8 performed flawlessly landing fish after fish, my 9/10 I discovered had an issue with the housing bracket not sitting in the spool groove and my running line would slip through the gap causing it to foul so the 9/10 didn't get much action.

Upon my return home I spoke with Evan and sent the reel to Justin, Justin sent a new reel plus my old spool, so basically I now have an extra spool for another line. It is that kind of service that keeps companies in business and continues to help them grow.

I know some on here are fans of Allen and I am preaching to the choir, but that was some great service. I think my next rod will be an Allen.

I recently bought an ATS 4wt and trout reel and the first time I took it out it broke on the 4th cast. Im sure it was a manufacture defect so I emailed justin the next day, a sunday afternoon and he wrote me back within 10 minutes saying he was sending me a new rod the next morning. I was not only suprized he got back to me that fast but with no questions asked. Great guys over thier and I can vouch for the quality of the products, got my new rod 2 days later [cool]

I have the AST Rod and several reels of different time periods. Evan e-mailed me last year and told me some of the older reels have bad drags. I sent the bunch to them and within three days, I had the reels back with new drag and one of the first Allen reels was not fixable so he sent a new reel.
I have a collection of the Allen's hooks and I will be tying flies for each different hook. These are quality hooks at a price saver.

I've noticed with my alpha II as well that the gap between the spool and the frame is quite large. Is it not supposed to be like this or what? Just playing around casting, I've had the running line slip thru that gap a few times. Just figured this was how they were machined.

That is the one with the screw on knob isn't it? I have a couple and if I don't have it screwed down tight there will be a gap.
The new reels have a little button on the center pin instead of the screw on.

This is the screw on knob yes. Even tightened down all the way, there's a little to much gap then there needs to be. Hopefully I don't have the same problem remo was having, I'll be fishing all week with it either way so. Hoping for the best and can come back with a 100% positive report. I'd love to see Allen's customer service right now (damage control) turn over and have their customers believing 100% in their products with flawless functionality. Reading on forums, I don't see that they're QUITE there yet, but extremely close! For the price, still can't beat it! **FINGERS CROSSED**

Sorry to thread jack remo.

My spoolwas set correct and tightened down, one side of the bracket fit fine, I could see that the other side was machined shorter therefore causing the gap...there should be no gap, and the fly line will fit through it and it will piss you off and cause problems. I would mail Evan.

So, did that new spool they sent you fix the issue? Just curious what happened with yours and what the fix was.

Fix was they sent me a new reel, and sent my old spool back also, the spool wasn't the issue, it was the reel bracket being too short on one side..

Good to know. I contacted Evan this morning and got an e-mail back within 5 minutes. This is what I'm talking about when it comes to customer service! It's always been this way with these guys. Very prompt, very honest! Hopefully I can get a fix before I leave....

Good to hear, you would be pretty upest to hook a moster fish and have it break off because of the reel, plus just casting was hard because the line kept slipping through.

Oh I could see it now. It always happens right after you cast so... My luck, I'd make the cast of a lifetime, have the line slip through, and it'd be fish on for 2 seconds till it snapped. It would also snap at the running line where it got snapped up on the reel, sending the head, leader and all down river with the fish. And it'd be the only steelhead of the trip. That's just how my luck rolls.

When dealing with high volume, things can go wrong. With any company. I have Tibor "Spring Creek" they neglected to put a bearing in.

Satan,

I spoke with Evan this morning on your email. We'll take care of this asap. Remo's reel was an exception with the lip section somehow breaking off making it a noticeable gap. If I can help with anything, please feel free to call me at 574-855-7100 or email at info@allenflyfishing.com.

Thank you,

Justin

I regret to say I'd never heard of Allen until this thread. Upon checking the website, I'm quite impressed. For my float trip down the Missouri next spring, there just may be a new Allen rod in the picture. A 10' 5wt sounds nigh-on perfect.

For everyones info at how great these guys handle their customers.... I contacted Evan at about 8 o'clock this morning. My reel is now in the mail box shipping back overnight to Justin to get this baby fixed up before my trip. I haven't dealt with ANY company willing to do that with that good of turn around time. Thank you Justin for bringing TOP QUALITY customer service to us! It will definitely keep up coming back for more from you guys!
