Wow - where was that deal last year at this time when I bought my Nils 6 incher? I highly recommend this auger and this is a screaming deal.

Hey Jigs,

I've got one season on my blades (probably 200-300 holes). How long can I expect them to last? And what specifically do you mean by being careful - like not using them as battering rams but as cutting instruments like they were intended?

I've had mine going on 5 yrs now. Not putting 200-300 holes a yr on it, but a fair amount. You've probably got at least a couple more years to go I'd say if you don't bash them.

I got mine as a handmedown so i dont know how old it is but when i got it the blade was bent up and you couldnt cut a hole with it even though it was sharpenough to gash my hand pretty good. New blades are like 80 bucks but there is a guy that sharpens them for $20 bucks if i remember right. I have his card somewere. I sent mine to him and it cut great all last year probly 100+ holes.

Thanks for the sharpening info. I like $20 a lot more than $80 - heck, I might get a half a tank of gas out of that deal. And a reminder to all that auger blades are freaky sharp and to be extra careful taking off, and putting on, the blade guards (especially with frozen hands) and to not to lay an auger in a place where somebody could slip and fall on it. I like to dig half a hole and leave the auger standing up.
