After all of the reports on Pelican, it was with great trepidation that I ventured out with my 12 year old daughter and her friend in hopes of finding fish at Pelican Lake. We left before light and made it on the ice by 9:30. We poked numerous holes in the ice and started looking for fish. To my surprise, we found fish in about half of the holes and once we decided on a resting spot, we setup the tent in hopes of not having to move.
After I got the girls setup, we started catching fish within just a few minutes and it didn't stop all day. Since we drove from AF, we decided to stay all day to make the trip worthwhile. All in all, we landed somewhere between 60-70 fish and kept about 40. The size of the fish weren't as big as we've caught in the past, but the girls had a blast. We even caught a few bass and to our surprise, my daughter caught a nice little catfish.
For those wanting to have some fun, take the drive out there and give it a shot. We fished in 6 feet of water about 150-200 yards directly north of the BLM boat launch. Be prepared to look for the fish, but once you find them you'll have a blast.

I had to call in sick so I could go to Lake Powell!
