Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 12/23/12 to 12/30/12
.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: the water temperature has been a pretty solid 75 to 78 in most of our local fishing grounds. The pacific side was a little cooler going down to 75 degrees in some areas. The 95 according to Terra Fin was down to 76 yesterday and the 1150 was at 77 . The pacific side did have some choppy conditions over the last week due to wind a couple days. Swells were pretty small on pacific side at about 3 feet. On the Sea of Cortez side swells were about 1 to 2 feet.
WEATHER: Its been partly cloudy a few days of this past week. We are suppose to have some rain move into Cabo over the next couple days. Spirits have been high with lots of holiday people in town fishing, golfing and just relaxing. Temperatures have been in ladder 70,s in the day and going down to low 60,s at night. It hasn’t effected the fishing to much as the fishing has been pretty hot.
BILLFISHING: Well Billfishing has been pretty hot as we speak with lots of marlin being taken from Light House to the 95. Most of the marlin are being taken on lures and im thinking the reasons for that is there is so much bait in the water that there looking for something else to bite. Lots of boats are reporting 2 to 5 marlin a boat. Most fleets do practice catch and release, which is great so were catching and not keeping. When we think we know what we are talking about, we realize we don’t, normally with the full moon its really slow and we have been proven wrong since last month and this month fishing has been hot. So all in all, this past week was good for Striped Marlin. I did even hear reports of Blue and Black marlin being hooked up in San Jose.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around.
DORADO: Good numbers of Dorados being caught from Santa Maria to the Los Arcos area they are hitting lures and live bait with some even hitting Ballyhoo. This fish being caught were nice size at 15 to 35 pounds each. Over in San Jose also was productive for Dorado with quite a few reports of them being caught trolling live bait. A very productive week for Dorado lots of great dinners happening.
TUNA: There back. One of our boats out yesterday was south of Saint Jamie about 5 miles offshore found the porpoise and ran into the Tuna we got 7 nice ones from 20 to 45 pounds. Cedar plugs, rapallas, hootchies and live bait have caught fish, some of larger fish off of boats flying a kite.
INSHORE: The panga fishing inshore has pretty good with quite a few Sierras being caught on hoochies in front of the Solmar over the last week. Some reports of Dorados also close to shore. Bait casting for Red snapper and Grouper close to shore in the rocks has been productive. Some Yellow Tail also reported being caught jigging iron and using rapallas.
WAHOO: There were a few Wahoo caught east of us in the San Jose area. They were caught on Rapallas and Marauders. I haven’t heard to many reports of Wahoo being caught here on our end in Cabo. Its really been hit or miss on the Wahoo over the last week.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
