PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching the waters of Croatan Sound Sunday for a man reported missing after an airplane crash near Maneo, N.C.
Dare County dispatch contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, reporting a twin-engine airplane from Dare County regional airport crashed after take-off.
The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched crews aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
Dare County responders recovered a female passenger and brought her to shore where local emergency medical services personnel took her to a hospital.
