Hey guys,
So, I'm planning on introducing a couple of my friends to the wonderful world of ice fishing on Saturday and need some advice on where to go. I live next to the U of U campus, and since I'm a poor student with a POS granny car, I would like to go somewhere relatively close and easy to get to. Any info would be siiiiiick!!

Usually for a Quickie after work I head over to Bountiful pond off of the 5th south exit. Out by the islands its about 5-8 ft, I catch a bunch of rainbows with a white grub with an orange head. havent been there in a bit check ice before going on the ice. easy to get to, paved, and usually plowed. I am sure any community fishery will produce something. I just like the fact that I can go for an hour, with just my rod little tackle, auger and a bucket seat and catch 15 or more 12"ers. A tug is always good after a long day at work.
Have Fun!!

Try Echo res. I live pretty close to the U and I got down from the reservoir in 45 minutes today. Fast fishing for some nice perch on the bottom. I took a first timer and he loved it. Only bad thing about Echo right now is the water (ice) is way low, so you have a bit more walking to do. We whipped up some perch fish tacos and they were awesome.
You shouldn't need 4-wheel drive either, EXCEPT for the possible exception of parking in a snowy or muddy shoulder.

Rockport at the Wanship exit. 30 min drive. I used to get done with class and buzz right on up there. Jordanelle too. Why bother to study till midterm and final? hahahaha. Now grad school, that's a whole different story. Much harder to put up a facade of intelligence without at reading at least most of the texts. lol

East Canyon is close by as well and I usually catch as many fish as I can keep up with there. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info, guys. We ended up going to Bountiful Pond. We didn't get on the ice until about 3:30 in the afternoon and stayed until dark. No fish! I think it ruined ice fishing forever for my two buddies. Hopefully I can hit those other places you guys mentioned before everything thaws. I'll probably be going alone this time around though, haha.
