I fished the arm coming down to the state park yesterday afternoon to some success. I caught a 16 inch rainbow in the space of an hour and two guys who fished earlier said they caught one small fish. The bite definitely wasn't too hot but I had a fun time on the ice. Anybody been successful on Utah lake recently? I've heard the bite slowed down.

I've fished Provo harbor last week. The bite is better in the afternoon. Try the docks closest to the visitor center, the white bass are small, but you can snag some blues and perch in the same spot.

Ok yeah I think I'll head that way this weekend maybe. I don't mind if the fish aren't too big...I'm just looking for some good action. It seems like the warmer weather is melting the ice off so I wonder how much longer these lower elevation lakes will be accessible for ice fishing. I'm not too familiar with ice fishing around here so I might be wrong but it seems like the ice won't be here too much longer if we don't get another cold spell. Thanks for the advice!

A week ago Monday, I went to Deer Creek and the ice was solid--at the Charleston end and around the island. Then, when I went the following Saturday (Jan 26) after our little warm spell, there was so much open water around the edges that people couldn't even get out on to the ice. What was the ice along the shoreline like when you went?
Also, when you say "the arm by the state park," do you mean the arm that goes from the big launch ramp to Wallsburg, or do you mean the state park up at Charleston on the north end of Deer Creek? When we checked out "sailboat beach" west of the big launch ramp on Saturday, it had the best ice, but it was still pretty iffy.
I'm thinking of going again this weekend, but not if the ice is unsafe.

I was fishing the arm at the south end of the lake where the creek comes in near the Highway 222 turnoff to Wallsburg. I pulled off at the small dirt parking area past the state park turnoff and walked down to the lake. As far as the ice, I know what you mean about the edges being a little sketchy. Luckily, several fishermen were leaving the ice as I arrived and I could tell by their footprints in the fresh snow that the ice was safe out away from the shore, otherwise I may not have risked it. I would say there was about a 5 or 6 foot section of slushy ice along the shoreline where you had to be careful not to step through. Beyond that section the ice was fine and was about 8-10 inches thick 40 yards off shore. Things may have changed since then so I would be careful no matter what...maybe carry a metal pole to check the bank area if there's still slushy ice.
Oh, and the trout I caught hit a small chartreuse-feathered crappie looking jig near the bottom in about 25-30 ft of water. Good luck if you go and safe fishin!
