Soldier Creek 2/7
#1
3 of us hit the ice north of soldier creek marina about 8:45 until 3:45, fair day brought home 2 limits of bows tossed back about 2 limits of dinkster bows, no cuts caught. fished 19ft of water and 12ft of water, average size taken home 17". Ice 13-15 inches solid no slush. Road in was hard packed enough two 4x4 made it to the marina and atv's would have been a better choice than sleds due to hard pack snow conditions

Thanks for posting your report. That is amazing that no cutts were caught. Were there others fishing in the area?

Couldn't have been too hard packed as we saw a 4x4 white pickup truck sunk to its axels with all kinds of guys and their snow sleds standing around looking at it when we drove by heading home from Starvation about 2:30. I guess some guys never learn. Makes me wonder if they are still there tonight or if they got out. I have a hard time with being patient with those guys. They tear up the road making it very difficult for the atv's and sleds to get around. My friend was taking my wife back to the truck at the parking area 2 weeks ago and hit the ruts that someone else left when they got stuck. His sled tipped over and my wife hurt her hip and hit her head as they went over. It was a good thing she was wearing a helmet. No... they were not driving fast. But, this is a discussion for another thread.

My experience is the shallower water is where the bows hang out and the cutts are in the deeper water. We probably catch 5 to 1 or more bows to cutts when we fish that area.

Are you kidding tearing up the snow, I try to park as close as I can get so i dont have to walk so far to get to the spot I like that's like me saying i dislike all the trucks with trailers in the parking lot taking up every spot there is which in turn makes me have to park out on the road. Or maybe the guys who back there trailers right up to the spots were everybody uses for access. I will apologise in advance for tearing up the snow for your snowmobile ride...

I try to get as close as possible also... within reason. But when the snow is deep like it is now, it makes no sense to me to tear up the trails. Especially when it presents a hazard to others or blocks the road. But sometimes ignorance is bliss in that you don't know the conditions until it is too late. Other times it is an "ego" trip to "test" your trucks ability. In this case with this winter, as much snow as has fallen, especially after the recent nights storm, in my mind it is foolishness. Potatoe...Potato... just one mans opinion. Do what you want... you will anyway... and I will think what I want. Hopefully if either of us gets into trouble and needs help, the other will overlook the oversight, stupidity, foolishness, selfishness or what ever the reason and be willing to lend the other a helping hand.

You got that right! I know what it is like to be stuck in my good ol car and have a helpful hand. If am able to help others that are stuck I sure will in the future.
