Trolling from a Pontoon Boat
#1
So I am wondering if you are able to troll on a pontoon boat? I have owned a bunch of diffrent boats. And it always seems so cramped after you get the kids and wife and maybe a friend or to. So i'm looking at this as in option? And they look like a pain in the A** to get back on the trailer.

Yes you can troll from one. Yes they can be a pain in the butt to get back on. They have a high profile and the float up high like a cork...add a little breeze and you can expect a little entertainment. Like everything else there is a learning curve.

Yes you can. In fact when I lived in Arkansas on Lake Norfork for 10 years a few years ago I had three boats and the one I went out on most was the pontoon. Everyone that ever fished with me loved it. It was comfortable and had plenty room for the 35 gallon bait tank and up to 6 people. I could easily troll 6 rods with no problem.
I would suggest getting a fishing version of what ever you get. Mine had two swivel pedestal seats in front and an electric motor and also work well for casting.
Here's a couple pictures of fish caught off the pontoon.

[cool][#0000FF]Plenty of GOBs (good ol' boys) trolling their pop gear for hatchery pets at Deer Creek out of a pontoon boat. Funny thing though. In spite of sitting higher up off the water they seem unable to see me in my float tube and often run right over me...or close to it...totally ignoring my presence. And if I holler at them they have a standard reply..."You don't own the whole lake"...as if they do.

Be careful. Fishing from a pontoon boat apparently clouds your vision and reduces your sense of sportsmanship.

Trolling from a pontoon is my favorite way to fish Strawberry. Fly rod with a sinking line, crystal killers, and a slow troll with intermittent twitches will do the job.

I always fish with buddies, so loading/unloading is no sweat.

I prefer tolling on my pontoon when multiple people are on board not nearly as cramped feeling as other boats. But yes loading in wind is a b@!#h!

I bought a 22' fishing barge last year and love it when I troll from it at fish lake or Powell. It works great I have one down rigger and troll 4 others they are a bit of a pain in the wind but they are. Light enough I just push the back end into position . Pontoons a. Are great for the whole family to go out

[#0000FF][cool]There are good and bad examples in all ilks. To be fair, the majority of pontoon boat trollers I see are courteous and stay a respectful distance from other anglers...including tubaholics.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF][cool]I used to carry a slingshot...until I got busted for being too accurate. Gave a water skier a pain in the (backside). Served him right for spraying me from 10 feet away but assault with a deadly weapon trumped the proximity rule.

Thinking about ordering one of these. Might cut down on survivors left to testify.

Bwa ha ha ha haaaaa.
