Jordy again
#1
Hit Jordanelle this morning before the storm started. One the ice by 8:00, and back in the truck by noon. Caught well over 100 perch I am sure. Again, most 3-4 inches. Did manage to land two bows about 18-19" and thick (quite the surprise when you are weeding through dink perch).Took home 13 perch between 8-10", most of the keepers being right about 9". Drive home was fun, white out conditions in spots, saw probably 25+ cars/truck off the road or head first in guard rails. Got home nice and safe, and now got a little filleting to do.
Also, the snow started dumping about 9:00 on. It collapsed the ceiling of my QF4 twice, and my sled was full of snow by the time I walked back to the truck.
All in all a fun day with quantity, but not too much quality.

100 perch and two 19 inch bows, and you weren't at starvation..Sounds like a quality day to me. The biggest rainbow I've pulled out of the ice at the Nelle was 15 inches..But it was fat and healthy. As for the perch, most are small in Jordanelle, so that is expected.

I took my scouts out there on Friday and we camped out so we could get to the ice early and catch fish and we didn't catch one!!! I don't know what I was doing wrong but we stayed until 2 30 and the weather was bad! Cold strong wind and lots of snow. My scouts wanted to catch fish but we couldn't take the weather anymore.

Was that you guys I saw camping in tents huddled around the fire this morning, then fishing straight out from the ramp?
If so I was the guy who pulled up in the white Tundra, wish I would have had you guys take over my spot.

That was us camping! It was great because the bathrooms there are heated and we were close to the ramp. I have to say that was the worst ice fishing weather I have ever been in and that being the fist time my scouts have been ice fishing I was nervous they would never want to go again but they still want to try it one more time.

Ya know, I never seem to do well right on the back edge of a front like that, almost no matter where I am or what I'm after, buy esp. panfish. I don't know the science, but right after a storm, OR those really cold, oppressive, high pressure, silent, foggy days, just turn out poor for me. So I would attribute it to that..

Except, there was ol' Bowhunter3 ,catching a few. If I'd had a passle of kids with.me, I'd have gone and bugged him for the secret. Can't speak for Bowhunter, but people, me included, generally are pretty willing to help kids.

One time at Mantua, some years back, I asked a guy for pointers, and he had me send my daughter over while I had to sit 25 yards away so I couldn't hear while he coached her. He was just messing around, but he wanted her to come back and outfish me. Big Grin

Sorry to hear you guys didn't catch fish. Now I am really kicking myself in the butt for not at least asking how you guys were doing. I always like to see the kids get into fish, and would have glady showed you where there were biting. By the time I saw you guys at the ramp I was trudging out back to the truck in the blizzard. I couldn't even see if you guys were catching fish, but I assumed you were (guess I was wrong...).
