New bass club, anyone interested?
#1
From the research I've done, I haven't really found a bass club that fits me. How many people out there would be interested in a bass club located in utah county, fishing utah county lakes and reservoirs? There would be a tournament once a month, the buy in would be real cheap, like $20, and it would be individual rather than team type competition. Boaters and non boaters would both be invited. If there's enough people interested, I'd probably get with UVUbass or someone like him to see about putting something together. At a minimum maybe we could do a BFT bass tournament like in June at Deer Creek...the first annual one in history: ) Let me know.

That sounds right up my alley.

Can we make a rule that he who brings donuts is president for the week?

Well with just four of us, it may not happen. Anybody else interested? We'll probably need about half w/ boats and half w/o boats minimum. Maybe we'll need to invite specific people to get the numbers up?

If this goes I would be in and my father would be in.

We are boaters.

And I dunno, I think the response has been very good for an idea posted on a forum.

I'm part of an RC airplane group that started with four of us getting together to fly combat at lunch in 2001.

Since 2009 our events have 60+ flyers attending.

I have NOTHING to do every week but fish, and a new source of income (all the weekly $20 from each of you [Image: happy.gif][Image: bobwink.gif]) would be a welcome influx of fundage!! I have boat...will travel, but not a Utah county resident....is that BAD??!!! Oh, and I HATE BASS, so I wouldn't mind puttin the hurt to a few!! Don't quite see the "lure" of fishing for bass much...they're kinda like trout in that they are usually pretty easy to dupe!! Now if we had a Carp tourny...now that would be a contest.jk lol

I'm a boater looking for a bit less demanding/lower pressure introduction to the competitive world. Sounds like this could be the ticket. I don't live in the UC though...I only come down there to catch your fish. Wink

Anyways...I'd be interested.

The club sounds good and the fun type tournaments looks good, are your tournaments catch and release or kill type??

With the bass regs like they are and you said some thing about all fore one type..Will you go by inches??
Or weight??
Or just bring in one fish??
I have been in or helped with lots of tournament over the years if you like some help..

Good questions. There's definately enough people to get something going, I'll need some help for sure! My goal is to keep it simple and fun, with a little competition mixed in it. My first thought is to let each individual decide if they want to keep the fish or not, I don't keep anything because I hate eating fish. I was also thinking of a weigh-in rather than using the lenght to weight calculator. I was also thinking about the best way to get people pre-registered to save time the morning of the monthly tournament. It's almost a must because you'd have to pair people up, non-boaters with boaters. And lastly, I'm just wondering if there are certain legalities we'd have to follow as far as collecting money from people, etc. Not sure if you'd have to register as a business or something? I'd rather just keep things low key and fun!

Hello,

Just a head's up regarding some of the legalities involved with tournaments as far as the DWR is concerned. Weigh in tournaments require a Certificate of Registration (COR). The COR process requires an application 45 days prior to the tournament and there is a fee.

More information on holding tournaments may be found at:

http://wildlife.utah.gov/dwr/fishing-contest-cors.html

Good luck. It sounds like fun.

If you're trying to make it fun I would do a paper contest. Have the boater/co-angler check the measurement and release the fish. Top five biggest fish win. I have papers that have the length/weight conversion and room to mark fish that I can donate. I'm interested.

I am in. I am a non-boater, but I would like to use my pontoon boat if possible. Also, a lot of the tournaments I've been in or read about won't allow fly rods (unless they're frickin small) -- can we use a regular fly rod?

I'm fairly sure that with this many people, a few bucks from everyone would more than pay for any fees that might come up. Anyhow, this sounds like an excellent idea -- give me a holler if you want help with anything.
